USS Alabama

Yesterday we took a ride back to Mobile Alabama (about 45 miles from our campsite) to visit the Battleship Memorial Park and tour the USS Alabama a WWII Battle Ship and the USS Drum (SS 228) a submarine also serving in WWII. This was a self guided tour and you are allowed to browse both vessels at your own pace and were able to go below to many of the decks and explore the inner working of a war ship.
We had an great day filled with history and facts of both the ships and their crew and the many battles the were involved in.
Yesterday would have been my dads 89th birthday and we smiled proudly knowing he was with us in spirit as we toured the exhibits and we thought of the many stories he has shared with us about his own WWII experiences.
Our hats off to our military personnel who fought and in many cases sacrificed their lives so that we can have the freedoms we have today.

Well tomorrow is a travel day for us so I better get moving  here and remember as my friends up north often say "keep your stick on the ice" catch you later
